The National Horse Fair (Feira Nacional do Cavalo) celebrates the equestrian life that is at the heart of this region and features one of Portugal's finest horse breeds, the pure-breed Lusitano.
Golegã is called "The Capital of Horse" and attracts thousands of horse enthusiasts every year. People come to Golegã from all over the World, enjoying not only the horses exhibited, but also the local cuisine, portuguese wine and night events.
Around November 11, the small town in the Ribatejo area turns into an impressive showground for horses, breeders and horseman. The central market place becomes an arena, where competitions in all disciplines and exhibitions of the Lusitano horse are happening during day and night. This environment creates an unique atmosphere and opportunity of a get-together of the "Lusitano" world.
