Time off - What to do in the area
- Visit the Convent in Mafra and find out more about Portugal's History and Legency of the ancient Kings.
- Many different water sports are offered in Ericeira, a wourld-famous windsurfing destination. You choose boat trips or fishing or water sports: parasailing, kite surfing, scuba diving, the choice is yours.
- Several horse events are held in Portugal throughout the year; the Auction in Alter Real in April, the International Lusitano Festival in Cascais in June, the National Horse Fair in Golega in November, during summer many regional Horsefairs and spectacular Bullfights all over the country
- The Portuguese Riding School with ists famous dark bay Alter Real stallions, also known as the horses of the King, is training and showing in the Palace's Guardens in Queluz - watch the Masters ride and work their horses!
- Portugal is also known for its top golf couses - play on some of the most beautiful courses located in the schools surroundings.

The school is located about 25km north of Lisbon in a beautiful scenery. The small village, Alcainça, offers a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. You are staying on the proprety almost door to door with the horses; you can see them, you can hear them and you can feel them; this is an ideal environment for the passionate intermediate or advanced rider who wants to know and enjoy the Lusitano horse and who wants to improve his riding abilities.
Focused in the classical way of riding, head instructor Georges Malleoni, follows the inspiration of the Great Master Nuno Oliveira. He and his team teach on highly trained Lusitano horses. The students have the opportunity to learn from experienced Schoolmasters and profit from multilingual and very experienced instruction. Have you ever wondered how a Piaffe and Passage do feel like? Have you ever dreamed about riding flying changes in series? At Escola de Equitaçao de Alcainça you will be able to experience all of this!
Riders are split into groups, according to their ability and experience. In general the lesson size is one to three riders in a group, so that so that everyone gets enough individual attention. Lesson's do not have a standard time and take as long as the rider needs to achieve the particular goal for the particular lesson.
By choosing this program you will have two intense training sessions a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In between the lesson there will be time for relaxing by the pool or various excursions in the surroundings.
