Time off - What to do in the area
Cascais
Cascais has a great historic heritage, and the town itself is quaint and picturesque. The lovely bay filled with fishing boats is a favorite spot in the area, and the town boasts important architectural and artistic works. Aside from the wide variety of sporting events hosted here, the cultural offer is also rich, carefully maintained and in constant expansion.
Sintra
Sintra is one of those magical places of rare beauty, where nature seems to have been sculpted to embrace the rich historic and architectural heritage it contains. Cherished by Man throughout History, the Sintra mountain range presents an amazing concentration of monuments from the most varied ages, from Prehistoric times to the modern day, displaying enormous respect for nature and history and great cultural diversity, one of the reasons that Sintra has been declared Heritage of Humanity. Along with the wealth of history and monuments, the area also boasts great environmental treasures. Thanks to an unusual microclimate, some of Portugal's most beautiful and romantic parks are located here, and the area also houses a wide varitey of autochthonous vegetation, dense and dramatic, adding majesty to the rich green landscapes. The views carry visitors back to the Neolithic ages through the Monk's Tholos; enjoy the horizons from the walls of the Moorish Castle, an Arabian military fortress dating back to the 8th century; feel the austerity of the Franciscan monks in the Capuchos Convent; stroll through the mysteries of the Pena Palace, a mythical building that stands out like an extension of the mountain itself, and discover the serenity and beauty of the Pena National Park.
Estoril Casino
The Estoril Casino, the largest in Europe, is a favorite spot in Portugal for nightlife and entertainment, offering visitors an extensive range of activities - from the wide variety of games to great moments of entertainment provided by the daily shows. In Estoril, culture and entertainment are truly a constant, while Nature also holds a privileged position. As a complement to the sea, the green spaces are also crucial to maintain the area's environmental balance. The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park is a perfect example of this, serving not only as a unique space for protecting natural species, but also as an eco-tourism hot spot, with several activities at your disposal.
Beaches
Facing south, the beaches that stretch along the coast all the way from the Tagus estuary offer visitors calm waters, golden sand and modern facilities to provide the utmost comfort. From Carcavelos beach, ideal for surfers, to Guincho, a windsurfer's paradise, you will discover many others, different between them but with maximum pleasure in common. This is a privileged spot for carrying out nautical sports. From the most radical to the most sophisticated, the Estoril coast offers sea lovers unique conditions with quality infrastructures, among which the modern Cascais Marina stands out.
Cuisine
Among the many fun activities one can enjoy on the Estoril coast are the restaurants and culinary offer. Taste some of the region's most traditional dishes such as fresh shellfish, steamed lobster, seabass, white bream or the exquisite Cascais sole.
