LFYC isn't LFYC without a teamwide hug celebrating a goal: LFYC 2020 is cancelled

Lisbon Football Youth Cup is a celebration of the beautiful game. An international youth football party, an immense multicultural experience that brings together boys and girls from all over the world. As such, how could we party without those heartfelt hugs after that last-minute goal that wins a match?

COVID-19 is a party-pooper: LFYC 2020 is cancelled

It's with a heavy heart that we must announce that the 2020 edition of the Lisbon Football Youth Cup is now cancelled, given all the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even if Move Sports, the tournament organiser, has seen its sports activities certified by the Portuguese National Tourist Authority and also by the World Travel & Tourism Council, and even as we have available a comprehensive COVID-19 ready travel insurance, the truth is that the public health measures put in place greatly limit our ability to put on a tournament that is a fun and rewarding experience for all.

On one hand, there are still a lot of travel restrictions in place which limit teams' ability to move freely and attend the tournament as they would normally do. On the other hand, fans and families wouldn't be able to participate, from the stands, in the celebration, given that no audience is allowed at sports events still. Finally, the specific rules and safety measures imposed on players make playing football, for these age categories, a less-than-ideal scenario.

The indomitable human spirit: LFYC 2021 is coming!

Preparations for the LFYC 2021 edition have already started! The human spirit, in all its resourcefulness, is unbeatable. We firmly believe that, by October 2021, we'll have collectively beaten the virus and we'll be able once more to live out our passion for the football together.

In 2021, we hope to once again host teams like Beijing Dongcheng (China), HJK (Finland), Hammarby (Sweden), St. John's Wood FC (England), Étoile Mouzillonnaise Football (France), Lourdes Celtic Football Club (Ireland), Benfica and Sporting (Portugal). This is going to be the biggest LFYC to date!
