We began our adventure in the radiant Albufeira, Portugal, where the ESBA Albufeira '23 European Championship Open took place. It was a week-long celebration of basketball, unity, and pure excitement. Over 1600 athletes, representing 114 teams from 22 countries, flocked to the tournament. The impact of this event reached beyond the court, with an estimated 3000 participants and their companions flooding Albufeira. This influx of visitors contributed to the local economy, generating a staggering 20,000 hotel stays across the town.
Without skipping a beat, we directed our attention to the captivating town of Óbidos, where a corporate event unfolded. Over the course of three days, 113 employees engaged in productive internal meetings, team-building activities like padel, golf, surf, and beach volley, and evenings filled with unforgettable entertainment. This event was an opportunity for the company to witness Move Sports' meticulous event planning while experiencing the power of sports in fostering team cohesion.
Next stop: Sotogrande, Spain. Collaborating with Ibercup, Move Sports flawlessly coordinated and supervised a thrilling rugby tournament. Two U16 teams from Cascais proudly represented Move Sports, showcasing their skills on the field and leaving a lasting impression. Our expertise in sports event management was on full display, creating an environment where the true spirit of rugby thrived.
To kick off the month of July with a bang, we had two of our recent flagship events. The 3rd edition of the Lisbon Basketball Youth Cup gathered 18 teams, including 260 young athletes, with 25 of them hailing from Spain and Germany. This international tournament infused a global flair into the competition. Meanwhile, the 2nd edition of the Portugal Summer Football Cup attracted 21 teams, consisting of 300 athletes, competing in various categories, including men's 11-a-side, men's 7-a-side, and women's 11-a-side. The participation of international teams from Italy, Germany, Austria, the UK, and the USA elevated the event to new heights.
To summarize the magnitude of our accomplishments, let's dive into the numbers that define our success. Throughout these events, Move Sports welcomed a total of 2,513 participants, comprising 173 teams. The demand for accommodation was extraordinary, resulting in 20,945 hotel stays. A staggering 434 matches took place across 7 different sports modalities, totalling 1,633 hours of thrilling sports action. We owe a massive debt of gratitude to the 83 referees and 94 staff members who played a crucial role in making these events a resounding success.
