A Full Week of Sport for Move Sports
Some weeks are a clear reminder of what sports event organisation really involves.
Not because there is one major event taking place, but because several different projects are happening at the same time, in different locations, with different audiences and different needs. This is one of those weeks for Move Sports.
Between 13 and 21 June, the ESBA MaxiBasket Championship Algarve / Albufeira 2026 is bringing international veteran basketball to the south of Portugal. Co-organised by the European Seniors Basketball Association and Move Sports, the event welcomes teams from several countries, including Australia, the United States, Ireland, Germany, Portugal and Lithuania, among others.
At the same time, in Lisbon, the final preparations are underway for the Lisbon Basketball Youth Cup, taking place on 21 and 22 June. This international youth basketball tournament will bring together teams from countries such as the United States, the Bahamas, Ireland, Portugal and the United Kingdom, continuing its role as a platform for young athletes to compete, travel and experience basketball in an international setting.
Alongside both basketball events, Move Sports is also hosting a football sports tour for a U17 and U18 group from the United Kingdom, taking place from 15 to 19 June. The programme combines football with a wider travel experience, including activities designed to help the group discover Portugal beyond the pitch.
Three projects. Different sports. Different age groups. Different cities. One very full week.
For the team, this means being present in more than one place at once. Part of the operation is focused on the ESBA MaxiBasket Championship in the Algarve. Another part is preparing the Lisbon Basketball Youth Cup in detail, making sure everything is ready before the teams arrive for the tournament weekend. At the same time, the football tour requires close follow-up, coordination and attention to the group’s experience from start to finish.
This is the type of work that often remains invisible when everything runs well.
And perhaps that is the point.
Good sports event organisation is rarely about making the operation visible. It is about allowing participants, coaches, families and partners to focus on the experience itself.
Behind each event or tour, there are schedules, transfers, accommodation, venues, suppliers, activities, communication with teams and constant small decisions that need to be made quickly and calmly. It is not only about planning in advance, but also about having people on the ground who understand the rhythm of each project and can respond when needed.
What makes this week particularly representative of Move Sports is not just the volume of work, but the variety.
The ESBA MaxiBasket Championship Algarve / Albufeira 2026 reflects the social and international side of veteran sport, where competition is combined with friendship, travel and shared history. The Lisbon Basketball Youth Cup has a different energy, centred on young players, international exposure and the excitement of a tournament weekend. The football tour adds another dimension, showing how sports travel can combine training, activities and cultural discovery within the same programme.
Together, they reflect the wider role of sports tourism in Portugal.
International teams and groups do not only come to play. They stay in hotels, use local services, visit different regions, discover new places and take part in experiences that connect sport with travel. Whether in the Algarve or Lisbon, through a tournament or a sports tour, these projects contribute to a broader ecosystem where sport becomes a reason to visit, compete and connect.
For Move Sports, weeks like this are demanding, but they are also meaningful. They show the company’s ability to work across different areas of sport, from international sports events and youth tournaments to adult competitions and tailor-made sports tours.
There is pride in being able to deliver this kind of week, but also a clear understanding of the responsibility it brings. Every project depends on teamwork, trust, preparation and the ability to adapt quickly. More importantly, every event matters deeply to the people taking part in it.
It is a busy week for Move Sports.
And, in many ways, it is exactly the kind of week that shows what the company does best.
